5x5: Harry Potter Character, or Scientific Name for an Amphibian?
The NYT Mini for Thursday, 2/25/21
I wasn’t allowed to read Harry Potter growing up, so this clue was a CURSE alright.
My mom heard that there were wizards and witchcraft in the books, so they were forbidden. As a result, I have been shunned by all the other millennials who are united in “hating Dolores Umbridge.”
Anyway, I assumed Petrificus Totalus was a character and wanted to put down WITCH instead of CURSE.
Inspired by my mistake, here’s a game. Answers after the solve notes.

Hangup of the Day: CALF, CRANE, CURSE
This is my slowest Mini on record. I was not prepared this morning for Venn diagrams and Harry Potter trivia. Everything could be worked out through context clues and crosses, it just took me a bit.
Judging by everyone on my leaderboard, you all had trouble today too.
